What we don't use

We do not use Sulfates, Parabens or Phthalates in our products. What are these products and why are they bad or harmful??

Sulfates: Sulfates are an inorganic salt of sulfuric acid. They are used as detergents and surfactants. They are very strong and strip the natural oils from the hair and skin.

Once a handmade soap base has saponified and becomes soap, it does become an alkali or salt which is a surfactant (good surfactant). It is a natural surfactant as it is made with natural ingredients.

Parabens: Synthetic, chemical preservatives. They can enter your body through the skin. Parabens can mimic hormones in the body and disrupt functions of the endocrine system. They can also adversely affect the male reproductive system in reduced sperm levels.

Phthalates: Industrial chemicals used as plastic softeners or solvents. They can be absorbed through the skin. They are found in many leading beauty care products as the FDA has given levels that they feel are acceptable. Studies have shown that phthalates can damage the liver, kidneys, lungs and reproductive system.

Your skin is the biggest organ on your body. Why would you want to use a product with ingredients that may be harmful and absorbed through the skin just because the FDA says they are at acceptable levels??
This is just a very brief description of these ingredients and we encourage you to do your own research.

As we come up with recipes for our products (yes, our recipes) we research all of the ingredients. We strive to produce products that are as natural as they can be. Yes we do use fragrance oils but only fragrance oils that are phthalate free. We have found that not all essential oils hold up over time and try to only use ones that do. We want our customers to have options so we do have unscented, essential oils only, fragrance oil and combinations.

Again, we encourage our customers to do their research as we want you to feel good about something you are using on your body.
